Everton are keen to make some additions in the January transfer window and they could be in line to add a player who may be their next Mikel Arteta.

David Moyes was handed nine new signings over the summer transfer window in a period of considerable player turnover for the Toffees.

It has been a turbulent start to the 2025/26 campaign, with Moyes able to steer Everton back to winning ways ahead of the international break.

But Everton’s issues are there for all to see.

Tim Sherwood has slammed Beto and Thierno Barry as not being good enough to play up front in the Premier League.

One league goal between the pair would back up the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, as Everton head into the window.

Everton News is aware that Everton will be targeting a striker signing in January as they eye a player who could replicate Arteta’s time on Merseyside.

Everton eyeing Ivan Toney signing with contact made

On Wednesday, Everton News reported that contact has been made between Everton and Ivan Toney’s camp.

However, a deal for the 29-year-old is proving unlikely with the striker facing a lot of obstacles to leave Saudi Arabia.

If Everton could pull off the signing of the England international, it would be a signing that could change the game for Moyes.

It has to be caveated that Toney has not been playing in the Premier League for the last two years, but the striker has still been finding the back of the net in Saudi for Al-Ahli.

Ally McCoist has urged Everton to sign Toney in January, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United also keen.

Helping the Blues find the back of the net would make Toney an instant hero on Merseyside at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

With Beto and Barry producing one goal this season between them, having a player who netted 20 goals in the league just a couple of years ago could be monumental for Everton.

Ivan Toney could replicate Mikel Arteta’s Everton path

Back in 2005, Everton landed Mikel Arteta on an initial loan deal from Real Sociedad before making his stay permanent.

Everton are looking to replicate Arteta’s set piece masterclass in the current day Premier League, but his time at Goodison Park was also something special.

Having signed on an initial loan, it did not take the Toffees long to decide Arteta was going to remain on Merseyside.

Arteta loved playing under Moyes during his time at Everton and it is no surprise given he played perhaps his best football with the Toffees.

If Toney could land at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and have a similar impact, he could very quickly become a fan favourite.
