David Moyes has completely changed Everton’s fortunes since returning in January 2025.
When David Moyes replaced Sean Dyche, Everton were staring down the barrel of a potential relegation from the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Moyes steered the club well clear of the bottom three in the end, and now the Toffees are aiming for Europe this season.
Moyes has had his critics this term, but there’s no doubting what a fantastic job he’s done in his first 13 months in charge.
Is David Moyes doing enough at Everton to earn himself a new contract? 🫣
If not, who would you like to see replace him? 😬
We decided to take a look at how his current tenure compares to his first stint at the club, and the data is actually very similar.
The Scotsman has a slightly lower win rate and points per game record in his current spell, but it’s certainly close.
Of course, the first tenure is across 518 games, so it is a much fairer reflection of the team’s genuine level.
| Tenure | Games | Win rate | Points per game |
| Moyes’ first spell | 518 | 42.1% | 1.54 |
| Moyes’ second spell | 49 | 38.8% | 1.45 |
Where did Everton finish in David Moyes’ first full season?
There are so many parallels between Moyes’ first and second spell at Everton.
The 62-year-old first joined the Toffees in March 2002. He replaced Walter Smith as the club feared they could suffer relegation.
Moyes kept Everton in the division and in his first full season (2002/03), his side finished in seventh place.
So, if his second spell follows the same trend, the Merseysiders could once again finish seventh and qualify for the UEFA Conference League.
Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍
Everton could earn up to £35m if they were in the Conference League, so it would be beneficial for the club’s forthcoming transfer budgets.
If Moyes’ side beat Manchester United on Monday, they could actually go level on points with Brentford in seventh, depending on their result against Brighton.
