Everton have suffered successive defeats before Christmas, but there are still plenty of positives from the season so far.

A 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal is not what David Moyes would have planned in the final game before Christmas.

But there were still some positives to take from the defeat, including Tim Iroegbunam’s impressive midfield display and a well-organised defensive performance only let down by Jake O’Brien’s handball offence.

How far is Moyes capable of taking Everton this season? 🤩

The opening of the Hill Dickinson Stadium has certainly provided a boost this season, and Moyes is headed in the right direction with this Everton side.

Everton in the top half of the Premier League table

The festive period is often used as a measuring tool for a side’s success as we approach the halfway mark of the Premier League season.

Despite back-to-back defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal, Everton sit 10th in the Premier League table and cannot be overtaken by any teams before Christmas.

Do Everton have what it takes to make it back to Europe…

“I really hope I can earn the opportunity to get back into European football here at Everton.”

As pointed out by Tony Scott on X, this means Everton will be in the top half of the Premier League table at Christmas for the first time since it was achieved by Carlo Ancelotti back in the 2020/21 campaign.

Everton face Burnley and Nottingham Forest in their two remaining league fixtures in 2025, so Moyes will be hopeful of staying in the top half for the turn of the year.

David Moyes can improve on Carlo Ancelotti’s finish

Everton started the 2020/21 season in great form under Ancelotti, and even led the Premier League table at times.

Results dwindled in the second half of the season, and Everton finished the campaign in 10th place – the same position that the Toffees currently occupy under Moyes.

With the Blues now approaching a favourable run of fixtures, Moyes will be hoping to put together a strong run of form.

Given how tight the Premier League table is currently, Everton are only three points off the European places. It is a make-or-break period in the season, and optimistic Everton fans should be looking up the table at what is possible.
