David Moyes is holding Everton back as Friedkin Group transfer plans make for sorry reading

Everton’s summer business has got off to a solid start, but the clamour to bolster the squad further remains ahead of Saturday’s first pre-season friendly.

So far, Everton have been able to bring in Hayden Hackney and re-signed Tyrique George on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

However, there are areas all over the pitch that may have some Evertonians concerned over the lack of quality on offer.

Absolutely love this! A real classy kit for the Toffees… 🤩

David Moyes is believed to be interested in Jacob Murphy from Newcastle United, who would certainly offer further experience at the age of 31.

It would be a big contrast to what is currently going on at The Friedkin Group’s other club, AS Roma.

With completely different strategies on display, some may well question whether it is Moyes who is having a negative impact on Everton’s transfer plans.

Everton are keen to sign Murphy, who has just 12 months remaining on his deal on Tyneside.

Last season, the 31-year-old returned just three goals and two assists in the Premier League, which would not appear to be an upgrade on Everton’s current options out wide.

Having re-signed George on a permanent deal, interest in Murphy will confuse some given the competition for position already going on in Everton’s pre-season camp.

The Toffees are not battling PSR this summer, but it is no secret that Everton are not operating on a huge transfer budget.

Murphy would unlikely be a big-money signing, but it has to be questioned whether that money could be spent better elsewhere.

Moyes has already shown his insistence on using experienced players, which may well highlight the 63-year-old having too much of an impact on Everton’s transfer plans.

Roma’s transfer plans highlight David Moyes issue at Everton

It has now been suggested by Gianluca Di Marzio that Roma are moving closer to the signing of Crysencio Summerville.

Everton have been keen on Summerville earlier this summer, but a move for the exciting winger never materialised.

This may well come down to clubs offering him an opportunity at European football, but it could also come down to Moyes’ track record of failing to develop his young talents.

The 24-year-old only has to look at how Tyler Dibling and George were forced to watch from the bench last season.

With that in mind, there is very little reason for a player like Summerville to reject other opportunities to join Everton.

It will be especially painful if the Friedkins are to finance a move with Roma to sign the winger from West Ham United.

Summerville shone at the World Cup, which will have only improved his opportunities to find a new club over this summer’s transfer window.

The Netherlands international scored seven goals and provided five assists for the Hammers in their relegation campaign.

However, this is a player with immense talent and potential, but one that also looks set to move elsewhere despite the interest from Merseyside.

Moyes needs to prove this season that opportunities for youngsters like George and Dibling are there to be had.

With just 12 months remaining on his deal at Finch Farm, Moyes will be looking for short-term success, but he risks impacting Everton’s long-term potential by not utilising his prospects.
