Everton and David Moyes have now shared their thoughts on James Garner’s omission from the England World Cup squad.
Friday morning saw the announcement of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad and Garner’s name was not included in the 26-man shortlist.
Moyes has used Garner in just about every minute of Everton’s 2025/26 campaign, which earned the midfielder a spot in the last England squad back in March.
How has Thomas Tuchel taken Jordan Henderson over James Garner? 😡
It has not been a good period for the Blues since that international break, with Garner one of the players to miss out on a spot at this summer’s World Cup.

Everton and David Moyes react to James Garner’s England omission
Just a matter of weeks ago, Tuchel urged Garner to continue his fine form in Everton’s remaining games of the season.
The 25-year-old has perhaps not quite been able to maintain those levels, but it has been a fantastic season nonetheless for the midfielder.
“Well, I’m disappointed for Jimmy, but I’ve got to say I’m not surprised,” said Moyes in Friday’s press conference.
Where will Everton be in the table by 6pm on Sunday afternoon? 🥲
The Blues could finish as low as 14th… 😫
“I think our form in the last five or six weeks hasn’t encouraged anyone to really go and focus on our players.”
Perhaps a shock statement to some given just how good Garner has been throughout the 2025/26 season on the whole.
Cole Palmer has praised Garner massively following their meetings earlier in the campaign between Everton and Chelsea.
“Head up, Jimmy. You’ve shown your quality throughout this season – your time will come,” the club said over X.
This will undoubtedly come as a significant blow for Garner, who will feel he has done just about all he can this season to earn himself a call-up from Tuchel.
