Everton suffered a 1-0 defeat to AS Roma in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, but it gave supporters the chance to see new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the first time.

David Moyes’ men have now completed their pre-season preparations, ready for the new 2025/26 Premier League season.

It’s been a challenging summer as Moyes has had to contend with a pretty threadbare squad, but new signings are expected soon.

One of their summer additions was in action last night, and here’s what Moyes had to say about Dewsbury-Hall’s first outing in an Everton shirt.

Dewsbury-Hall became Everton’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window last week, after Carlos Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou.

The £28m arrival from Chelsea was thrown straight into the action against Roma, as he started and played just over an hour.

Speaking to Everton’s website after the game, Moyes gave his verdict on Dewsbury-Hall’s performance.

“I thought Kiernan did well,” said Moyes.

“I thought he gave us some quality, and you could see the difference in his levels with some of the things he did, which were very good, so I’m really pleased with that part.”

Dewsbury-Hall received a standing ovation from Everton supporters, who were clearly impressed by his display.

Dewsbury-Hall’s game in numbers vs Roma

Dewsbury-Hall made four key passes and created two big chances, so he was certainly well worth at least one assist, as per Sofascore.

He actually received the second-highest match rating, joint with Jarrad Branthwaite and just behind Jordan Pickford

It’s clear the 26-year-old will be used more as a number 10, looking to score and create chances for his teammates.

Dewsbury-Hall’s deliveries from corners were impressive, too, so all in all, it was a very positive debut.
