Everton fans are ready for a new era at Goodison Park with David Moyes at the helm for a second time.

David Moyes is in place now and has been straight down to work after being appointed on Saturday.

Moyes said the Everton players are in good spirits after taking training on Monday following the sacking of Sean Dyche.

His first game will be against Aston Villa on Wednesday and it’s undoubtedly a tough start for Moyes.

But Goodison Park will surely be rocking, and there’s every chance the ‘new manager bounce’ theory will be in full effect.

One man who’ll be sat on the Everton bench for this game is Leighton Baines, who stepped in to take the team against Peterborough United in the FA Cup last week after Dyche left just hours before.

Moyes spoke about Baines at his press conference yesterday, offering one key reason as to why he’s made him a part of his coaching staff.

With Moyes coming in, there was perhaps always a strong chance that Baines’ role at the club would change.

He had been doing great work with the U18s.

But Moyes obviously knows Baines very well from their time together in the Scot’s first stint, and it would seem the manager is ready to lean on the 40-year-old.

Speaking yesterday, Moyes said: “Bainesy has been around for a long time here and he’s been working with the U18s and I just thought it was right that Leighton got a chance to step up.

“I’m getting told he’s a very good coach and can work well. We’ll do a lot of things. I need people who I trust and people who I know who work quickly. At the moment I need people around me who know exactly how I’m going to work.”

Baines can help Moyes on Everton return

Moyes has a huge job on his hands to turn around Everton’s fortunes, and hopefully, The Friedkin Group will be able to back him well this month.

Moyes said he was hopeful of new additions at Everton, and several players have been linked with a move to the club. Ernest Nuamah is thought to be of interest to Everton right now.

But it will largely be about getting the players who’ve been here since the start of the season to perform.

Making Baines a part of his coaching staff seems a wise play from Moyes, as the former full-back can help him get up to speed.

He can also tip Moyes off about who has been making waves in the academy.
