Everton are desperately seeking to find a solution that benefits all parties regarding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future.
The forward, who joined the Toffees in 2017, has showcased a brilliant progression, from a tall, skinny teenager into a hulking attacker capable of bullying most Premier League centre-backs.
Many Evertonians have grown alongside him and thus hold great affection for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which makes this perceived betrayal all the more infuriating.
Fortunately, David Ornstein is on hand to provide some sense of the transfer saga.
David Ornstein delivers Dominic Calvert-Lewin update
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast, seeking to preview today’s deadline day, the revered journalist could not comb through the latest transfer stories without settling on Calvert-Lewin’s future.
After all, it’s hard to pin down exactly what is going on in the striker’s head, with even the 27-year-old himself seemingly confused as to what the future holds.

The Toffees, however, will not be held to ransom, and Ornstein has now revealed what they have told Calvert-Lewin about potentially leaving on deadline day.
He said: ‘Let’s see what happens with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He’s into the last year of his contract and Everton will not want to lose him for free.
‘There has been some interest; Chelsea have looked at him, Newcastle previously before the PSR deadline, so it’s not impossible that a move could materialise.
‘Everton’s stance a while ago was: ‘Sign a new contract or it’s going to be a sale, we can’t lose you for free’.
‘But it takes all parties to tango, so we’ll have to watch that one.’
Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to make a decision on his Everton future
With Chelsea sniffing around Calvert-Lewin, and Newcastle United having shown interest earlier in the window, the Englishman is clearly not short of opportunities if he were to push for a move.
However, the longer he goes on without negotiating an exit whilst failing to sign a new deal, the more he is going to frustrate Evertonians.
After all, it then could not be more clear that he is only focused on the finances of a pre-contract agreement for next summer.

He needs to make his final decision now and stick to it, either engineering a move away today or committing himself to Everton.
If he fails to do that, and merely sticks around on Merseyside in limbo, the Evertonians will not be afraid to tell him what they think of the situation.
