Everton fans could be in store for a frustrating end to what has already been an underwhelming January transfer window.

David Moyes will have wanted to see more business done at this stage of the month as the Scot awaits the first signing still.

Despite having suffered from various injuries, suspensions and international absences, Everton have not acted in the market.

Heading into the New Year, Everton News columnist Alan Myers was hoping for three Everton signings this month to bolster the squad.

Clear areas for improvement were there for the Blues to address in the market, but no additions have been made.

As the Blues consider their options in the final days of the window, it looks as if they will miss out on another target to Leeds United.

Leeds United set to beat Everton to Jorgen Strand Larsen

Everton had shown an interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves this month as they eye more firepower up front.

The Norwegian is a player in high-demand, though.

Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, David Ornstein has admitted it is now looking as if it will be Leeds who may win the race for Strand Larsen.

“Strand Larsen is being pursued by others as well, such as Leeds United, who are the only club who have made an offer for him so far. It was rejected by Wolves. Their interest remains,” he said.

“Strand Larsen’s agent is a massive Leeds fan, the former player, Tor Pedersen. So there’s an appeal on behalf of the player and his representative for Elland Road.”

Everton have not made an approach for Strand Larsen as it seems increasingly likely that he could end up playing for the Whites.

Opportunities are passing the Blues by in the window as they look more and more likely to end the window having not made any signings.

Everton look set to prioritise summer transfer window

Writing in his weekly column for Everton News, Myers suggested Everton will prioritise summer signings.

Given the way the Premier League season is unfolding, this may come back to bite the Blues, as there is a significant opportunity to secure European football.

Results of late have been poor, but the Toffees only sit a matter of points off the European spots.

There is no doubt that the summer window will offer better opportunities for Everton, but this month really could have been used to boost Moyes’ squad.
