Everton were left furious with the officials after the West Ham United defeat.

David Moyes said Everton should’ve had a penalty when West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes handled the ball in the box.

“I’m amazed they’ve not given a penalty-kick for it,” Moyes admitted post-match.

“I think it was VAR who made the decision. I don’t know who was on it today, but they certainly got it wrong, that’s for sure.”

Why has it taken this long for Everton to complain? 🤷‍♂️

The club have FINALLY had enough… 😡

Now, speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher gave his thoughts on the controversial Everton decision.

Dermot Gallagher says Everton should’ve been awarded penalty vs West Ham

Gallagher has explained that Everton should’ve been awarded a penalty against West Ham as he believes Fernandes intentionally handled the ball.

“I think it’s a penalty,” the former referee stated.

“He’s handled the ball. If you take that chance like that. The feeling was that he accidentally caught the ball with his arm. I’m not so sure.

Four games to go, have Everton blown their hopes of European? 🫣

“I think most penalty handballs are accidental. Everyone knows if your arm is up and it hits it and stops a shot, it’s going to be given.”

The Premier League’s Match Centre X account explained that VAR thought it was accidental.

“The referee’s call of no penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Fernandes accidentally handled the ball while grappling with an opponent.”

Everton will have to quickly move on from the disappointment of Saturday, as they have four crucial games remaining.

European football is still up for grabs, although they’re now in the chasing pack and will probably need at least three victories.

The Toffees should be targeting maximum points Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City shouldn’t be deemed as a free hit, especially with it being at home, but that will be a challenge, of course.
