Ashley Young has been slammed for his role in Aston Villa’s fourth goal against Everton.

Speaking to Sky Sports at Villa Park, Andy Hinchcliffe criticised the defender for his ‘diabolical’ throw-in that led to Jhon Duran finding the back of the net less than a minute after he was brought on.

Everton put an a very disappointing performance in the Midlands as they were thrashed 4-0 by Villa, capped off by potentially serious injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi.

Unai Emery’s side dominated the ball throughout at Villa Park and deservedly claimed all three points, however their fourth goal certainly could have been avoided.

A very poor throw-in from Young put Michael Keane under pressure, who instantly lost the ball to Duran.

Despite a positive pre-season from Young, Hinchcliffe was left shocked by the ‘appalling’ mistake by the 38-year-old.

“The throw-in from Ashley Young is diabolical,” Hinchcliffe said. “It’s just appalling. There’s no other word for it.

“Disgraceful defending. How do you recover from this?”

Ashley Young was far from the only concern for Everton

Ashley Young’s return to Villa Park will certainly be one he will be keen to forget, but it wasn’t just him who performed poorly.

Everton’s entire line-up disappointed from the get-go. The defence looked weak, the midfield was overran and the attackers created very few chances.

The Toffees’ backline were expected to be the strongest area of the pitch under Sean Dyche, but that performance showed they were far from their best. It was a hugely worrying 90 minutes for the manager.
