Everton are exploring a deal to sign Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes is in the market for a right-back with Seamus Coleman set to end his playing career on Merseyside.

Spence has emerged as an ambitious target for Everton, and it could be a doable deal given his minutes became limited towards the back end of last season under Roberto De Zerbi.

What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋

Surely the writing is on the wall now?

The 25-year-old was in action for England last night as they were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in Boston.

Djed Spence’s versatility would be valuable for Everton

Spence is actually a right-back by trade, but he’s more than comfortable operating as a left-back as well.

Thomas Tuchel started the Everton target at left-back against Ghana, and he showed great composure on the ball whilst defending the runs really well.

Spence even inverted into the midfield and offered the Three Lions an extra man to overload the Ghanaian press.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

So quite clearly, he is very tactically aware and has developed immensely as a player under Tuchel’s stewardship.

If Everton were to land Spence’s signature, it’d provide competition for Vitalii Mykolenko as well as Jake O’Brien.

Leon Osman has been blown away by Spence’s pace, so he’d allow Moyes’ side to play a bit more aggressively and with a higher line next term.

His recovery speed is certainly needed, as O’Brien, Michael Keane and James Tarkowski were caught out on a number of occasions in the transition last year.

Spence would eliminate that threat, or at least, limit it.

The only stumbling block is how much Spurs are said to be demanding for his signature, with a £35m price tag floated around in the media.

If the Friedkin Group can negotiate that down to around the £25m mark, it’d be a superb signing for Everton.
