Everton need players they can rely on for the project at hand under the Friedkin Group, and Duncan Ferguson will certainly be rooting for this one star.

With Everton turning a new leaf in the Premier League with performances on the up, the squad will be assessed more thoroughly.

This means that any signs of inconsistency can’t come to the surface, as David Moyes has a good system at the moment.

The signings from this summer have proven to be effective, as Moyes has three potential Everton heroes in the works.

It’s an exciting period in which one player looks to be firmly a part of, and Ferguson believes he has the right mentality.

Duncan Ferguson called Jordan Pickford a ‘big game player’ at Everton

The main name that has been in the news recently has been goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

England’s number one looks set to be handed a new contract, which will see him retire on Merseyside, and Ferguson is a big fan.

Speaking to TNT Sports in 2022, the legendary former Toffees striker claimed that the 31-year-old lives for the big moments, after a stellar showing against Liverpool.

“He’s a big game player, isn’t he? He’s obviously done it for England as well, so he’s got that experience at that level,” Ferguson said.

“He was absolutely fantastic today.”

With talks set to take place, the Friedkins see Pickford as ‘key’ in Everton’s future, and it’s clear that figures like the keeper are needed around the club’s promising future.

Duncan Ferguson comments show exactly why Everton don’t need a goalkeeper for a while

Pickford is among the rare breed of keepers who have a strong mentality with their performances to match.

We’ve seen the likes of Andre Onana show his strong mentality off the pitch, but ultimately, he doesn’t back it up on the pitch, which is where Everton’s shotstopper shines.

He’s remained an ever-consistent force in the squad, and Mark Schwarzer thinks he’s reliable for England and Everton, something he struggled with at one stage.

It’s rare to find a keeper to show up for the big moments like the England international does, and Ferguson’s comments show why this new contract will keep Everton out of the goalkeeper department for at least five more years.

Pickford’s mentality has always been a strong trait, and the Toffees are very lucky to have the 31-year-old devoting his career to the club.
