Dwight McNeil is the talk of the town at Everton right now after his display at the weekend, which has seen him leap to the top of the charts for one stat in the Premier League.

Everton have been the authors of their own downfall so far this season with a number of points dropped late on in games, especially against Bournemouth.

Sean Dyche has come under some criticism for his game-management, but that wasn’t an issue against Crystal Palace last time round.

Any rumours about his future appear to have gone quiet, though Jamie O’Hara did state that he doesn’t think David Moyes would take the job right now anyway.

One thing that benefitted the Toffees massively was Dwight McNeil in his new role at Goodison Park, operating behind the striker in the 10 role.

This weekend’s game saw him take the lead in the Premier League for one particular stat.

Dwight McNeil leads the Premier League for chances created

Everton had to rely on Dwight McNeil to deliver the goods against Palace, and this is something that Theo Walcott thinks will need to keep on happening.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t been at his prolific best which has made things difficult.

McNeil has certainly done everything he can though, when you see the amount of chances he’s created.

According to BBC MOTD on X, Dwight McNeil leads the way in the Premier League with 21 chances created in the current campaign.

Dwight McNeil’s season to date at Everton

The fact that McNeil has created 21 chances but only has two assists shows how wasteful his teammates have been in front of goal this season.

The likes of Ashley Young and Iliman Ndiaye did put in impressive performances of their own in other areas against Crystal Palace, which is hopefully a sign of things to come.

It was claimed prior to the summer transfer window that a number of clubs would come in for McNeil, but no one did.

Everton fans will be thankful for that as he looks like the new main man at Goodison.
