Within Everton’s squad, there is an admirable versatility that has helped them out of some tricky spots.
This season particularly, which started laden with injuries, has seen so many stars forced to play out of position due to a lack of viable alternatives.
Dwight McNeil through the middle, James Garner at full-back, Abdoulaye Doucoure in defensive midfield.
However, there is one positional change that Evertonians have called for for some time now. Funnily enough, their suggestion has been supported by one of the players.
Dwight McNeil names Everton’s best finisher
Chatting on Everton’s official YouTube channel, two of the Toffees chief creators combined to look through Sean Dyche’s squad with interest.
Seeking to construct their ultimate teammate made up of the best attributes for left foot, right foot, tackling, heading, finishing, pace and football IQ, McNeil and Jack Harrison came into a few hurdles.
However, whilst discussing right-footed players within the squad, McNeil proposed a surprise selection: ‘Keano’s shooting, he’s not a centre-half. Shooting.’
Harrison recalled: ‘Did you see his goal today as well?’
‘That’s what I mean!’ McNeil argued.
Then, later on, this same debate was rekindled, with Harrison reiterating: ‘Keano’s finishing a joke, isn’t it?’ McNeil offered little pushback: ‘Yes, it’s a joke.’
Which Everton players’ contracts are expiring in 2025?
Ironically, Michael Keane is one of the many players whose contracts are expiring at the end of this season.
Next summer will mark a huge one for overhauling not only the squad and the staff, but also the ownership too.
Dan Friedkin will be in place by then, hopefully, and set to lead the Toffees into the new stadium.
Two midfield stalwarts are also set to see their current deals end too in Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye, whilst Everton are set to offer a new contract to Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite transfer interest.
The full-back spots might also be left bare too, with both Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman set to leave as well.

Then, loanees Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja should return to their parent clubs too.
Chief among those with expiring contracts is Everton manager Sean Dyche though, with him and Kevin Thelwell yet to see their deals extended. This will be one for Friedkin to consider upon completion of his takeover.
