Everton are showing an interest in Jacob Murphy.

The Toffees are keen on Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, with the 31-year-old heading into the final year of his contract on Tyneside.

Murphy will likely be available for a discounted fee, unless of course he pens an extension with the Magpies.

Everton fans aren’t particularly inspired by the potential signing, but Eddie Howe’s comments show exactly why David Moyes wants him.

Jacob Murphy will be a brilliant asset to the squad

Murphy isn’t going to bring tons of quality to Everton, but he will raise the standards around Finch Farm with his professionalism.

That’s according to Howe, who also stated how versatile he is, which is important for the balance of a squad.

“He’s someone who is the ultimate professional,” Howe said in 2023.

“He’s reliable, plays multiple positions and has never let me down. For me, it’s all about consistency. What you’re looking for from the players’ perspective is that they turn up every day and give their best.”

The Newcastle manager added: “For me, he’s just been that model of consistency in his approach and attitude.

“It’s great to see someone who puts that work in rewarded with an opportunity, and then it’s all about taking that opportunity. He’s done that, and it’s great to see.”

It’s unlikely that Murphy would join as a starter in the Premier League, rather a back-up option who can come in as a super substitute.

How excited are you by Everton’s signing of Tyrique George on a permanent deal? Can he really kick on now after his loan?

The deal is now official, with the Toffees paying an initial £18m, with £6m to come in potential add-ons… ✅

The 31-year-old did score nine goals and lay on 14 assists during the 2024/25 season, so if he were to reach those levels again, he’d certainly force his way into the team.

As long as Everton don’t overpay, this deal makes a lot of sense. Perhaps a fee in the region of £5-8m would be a fair price for both parties.
