Former Everton academy graduate Beni Baningime suffered Hearts agony in the final day against Celtic.

The Bhoys secured the Scottish Premiership crown on Saturday afternoon and a winner-takes-all showdown against Hearts.

Everton were represented at Parkhead by 27-year-old midfielder Baningime, who suffered heartbreak as Celtic took all three points and the silverware.

Baningime has spent the last five years away from Finch Farm, but the events on Saturday in Glasgow will take some getting over.

Everton academy graduate Beni Baningime suffers Hearts disappointment

Baningime spent seven years on Merseyside before he joined Hearts permanently in 2021.

The 27-year-old midfielder played throughout the Everton academy set up before making 12 appearances for the Toffees in the senior side.

David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce both awarded Baningime six appearances each in an Everton shirt.

Derek McInnes has utilised Baningime throughout the campaign, with the Congo international pulling up with a hamstring injury in the second half at Parkhead.

Baningime featured 27 times for the Jam Tarts this season in the Scottish Premiership and managed 51 minutes in Glasgow before pulling up with the injury.

“I don’t think there’s a more popular boy in our dressing room than Beni,” said McInnes earlier in the season.

Hearts should take a great deal of pride in what they have managed to achieve this season by disrupting the usual title race between Celtic and Rangers.

However, there is no denying that Saturday’s loss will take some getting over for all those involved at Tynecastle.
