Everton are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur in regards to the £10 million clause involved in the Dele Alli transfer.
According to the Mirror, Everton are eager to scrap the £10m fee that they would have to pay if Dele made a further seven appearances for the club.
Dele Alli joined Everton on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2022, however a number of add-ons mean that the Toffees could potentially end up coughing up a whopping £40m.
The midfielder arrived at Goodison Park in a bid to reignite his career, however it hasn’t gone as planned so far. Dele has made only 13 appearances for Everton in total and was sent out on loan to Besiktas last season, before returning early due to injury.
Dele underwent surgery in the summer and went onto participate in an interview with Gary Neville in which he admitted he had also been to rehab, opening up on his struggles during his childhood.
Dele received support from all over the globe following his interview and was expected to be given a warm welcome back at Everton, however he has since suffered setbacks with his injury and is still sat on the sidelines.
As part of Dele’s move to Everton, the Toffees will have to pay the first £10m payment if he makes 20 appearances. While Sean Dyche is reportedly eager to give him game time once he is available, Everton are in no financial position to pay up the eight-figure fee.

The Blues boss has now confirmed that director of football Kevin Thelwell has approached Tottenham to try and come up with a solution. When asked about they had made any progress, Dyche said: “No not yet, Kev (Thelwell) has had a couple of phone calls just lightly in the background, (asking Tottenham) look where do you see it?’ But nothing has changed at the moment.”
Can Everton afford to keep hold of Dele Alli?
Dele Alli hasn’t played a game of professional football since February, while he hasn’t featured for Everton in over a year.
The whole footballing world wants to see Dele back on the pitch and making an impact for Everton, but there is no chance that that can happen if they have to pay the £10m clause.
Sean Dyche clearly believes in the 27-year-old and sees him as a key member of the squad going forward, and there is certainly no harm in keeping him around if Tottenham agree to waive the fee. But why would they?
It is a lot of money for Spurs to just forget about and there only reason for considering it would be their relationship with Dele himself. If a solution can’t be found then Everton will have no option but to let the midfielder go.
