Everton are about to win race to sign ‘special’ player

Everton’s summer has already been a busy one, with three incomings and two outgoings marking a fine PSR balancing act.

Kevin Thelwell deserves huge praise for his work in guiding his club through this wreckage, and to somehow have handed Sean Dyche a bolstered squad without flouting any more financial rules would be a miracle.

Especially if they are to continue spending, which all signs suggest they will.

In fact, this latest report is even arguing that the Toffees have won the race to sign a player that journalist Bence Boksac branded ‘special’ earlier this year, and has commanded widespread attention from across the Premier League and Europe.

Everton win the race to sign Jaden Philogene

Everton have wanted Jaden Philogene for some time now.

Their continued efforts to pry him from Hull City have been well-documented, but so too has Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace’s interest too.

Thus, a protracted transfer saga has been ongoing, with agents feeding different journalists contrasting information to further confuse the masses.

Well, BBC Sport has finally weighed in, offering their verdict on the events: ‘Former Cardiff winger Jaden Philogene is set to join Everton after the Premier League club reached an agreement with Hull to sign him for a reported £16m.

‘Everton had expressed an interest in signing Philogene last month, and the 22-year-old is believed to be keen on a move to Goodison Park.

‘Ipswich and, according to Hull owner Acun Illicati, La Liga giants Barcelona were also interested in signing the in-demand Englishman, who scored 12 goals in 33 games for the Tigers last season.’

Jaden Philogene will leave Goodison Park stunned

If this report is to be believed, it is set to be one of the more exciting signings that Everton have made in recent memory.

How ironic that it should come on today, exactly 11 years to the day that the Toffees signed Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona.

The Spanish trickster quickly endeared himself to the Everton faithful with his quick feet, blistering speed and pinpoint delivery.

Realistically, Goodison Park has never seen a player like him since, with his crossing style so unique, and so devastating.

And whilst Philogene might not hit the byline and pepper in deliveries as Deulofeu did, he will certainly provide the same bag of tricks to excite Goodison Park.

He loves a nutmeg, embarrassing Championship defences regularly, and yet blends that with a keen work rate, sitting in the top 10% for successful take-ons per 90 but also the top 2% for tackles per 90 when compared to other wingers in Men’s Next 14 Competitions outside of the top five European divisions.

Philogene, if he does choose Everton, will quickly come to understand a new world of support should he translate his form straight into this level.
