Everton’s season has been marred by a really poor start, but after that early wobble, it does feel like things have stabilised.

After all, their losing streak could not go on forever, although it really felt like it might after four consecutive Premier League defeats including two where they had previously been 2-0 up.

Everton manager Sean Dyche was coming under increasing pressure, but a win and two draws have stopped the bleeding somewhat and put the Toffees in a far stronger position heading into this latest international break.

They currently sit 16th in the table on five points, just one win away from big-spenders like Manchester United and West Ham United, and with fixtures against Ipswich Town and Southampton on the horizon.

Things are not as bad as they seem, and those within the club remain positive.

Fabrizio Romano reveals how Everton feel about £15m star

Especially regarding the progress of one of their star men from an otherwise dire campaign, with Fabrizio Romano, revered transfer journalist, detailing a behind-the-scenes look into how those at Everton feel about the progress of Dwight McNeil.

Signed from relegated Burnley for just £15m back in 2022, the wide man has flourished into one of the club’s star men, with this season in particular being a standout thus far.

And now, unsurprisingly, Everton are delighted with how he has flourished in his new role, forced to become a number ten due to a lack of personnel.

Writing on X, Romano revealed: ‘Three goals, one assist in three games for Dwight McNeil who’s been nominated for Player of the Month Award in Premier League. Everton are extremely happy with his development.’

Dwight McNeil has been Sean Dyche’s shining light this season

It’s no surprise that McNeil is up for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award in September, given what a blistering month it was adding to his already sparkling season.

He has three goals and two assists, yet even that only begins to scratch the surface of his stunning form, averaging 1.9 shots per game, 3.3 key passes per game, and having also created seven big chances, via Sofascore.

Whether it be out wide or through the middle, he remains hard-working too, making him the perfect player for Dyche to have at his disposal.

Hopefully, the rest of the squad can lift themselves to his level in the coming months to not only move them well clear of the relegation zone but also provide a fine foundation for when Dan Friedkin completes his Everton takeover.
