Everton are looking to make their third signing of the summer transfer window.

Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry have both completed transfers to Everton, with the latter considered a real coup.

Barry had plenty of interest in his signature, but David Moyes was able to sell a convincing pitch to the France under-21 international.

There is still plenty to do in the market following several departures, and it’s understood Everton met with Lens midfielder Neil El Aynaoui on the weekend.

Now, there is a fresh development on another Everton target.

Everton ready to make offer for Douglas Luiz

Everton’s midfield is looking pretty light at the moment given the departures of Orel Mangala and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Douglas Luiz has been linked to the Toffees for weeks now after it emerged that Juventus were willing to offload him.

Now, according to Calcio Mercato, Moyes and his chiefs are ready to make an offer for the former Aston Villa star.

The Italian outlet claims that Everton are pushing ‘more strongly’ than West Ham United as they’re already in direct talks with Juve.

They want Luiz on loan with an option to buy next summer, however, the Turin-based club are remaining firm on their stance.

Juve want a permanent transfer this summer and value the 27-year-old at around £34m, which is a feasible deal to do for the cash-rich Friedkin Group.

Douglas Luiz’s impressive underlying data

Luiz is predominantly a deep-lying playmaker who dictates the tempo of games, however, he’s exceptional at carrying the ball forward, too.

In fact, according to FBref data, the Brazil international ranks in the top five per cent for successful take-ons per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, which is pretty remarkable.

The data shows Luiz is undoubtedly one of the best dribblers on the continent, which is a trait Everton really lack in their midfield.

He is also a very accomplished set-piece taker, which would be a welcome addition to Moyes’ squad.
