It feels like much of Everton’s business this summer, both completed and attempted, has been focused on bolstering their midfield and attack.
After all, bringing in Iliman Ndiaye has offered a strike partner for whoever their chosen front man is for next season, whilst another loan deal for Jack Harrison has kept the wings suitably strengthened too.
Even signing Tim Iroegbunam, whilst he is still young, has only added to their midfield depth.
And that’s even without mentioning Everton’s pursuit of Jaden Philogene too…
However, their backline remains rather bare and untouched, with actually only one sale having altered things.
That could now be about to change though.
Everton are ready to buy Serie A defender
Everton’s interest in Jackson Tchatchoua has been a long-lasting and well-documented rumour, but it has now been freshly expanded upon by L’Arena, relayed by Calcio Hellas.
The Italian outlet seeks to progress the suggestion that Kevin Thelwell is merely interested, by actually claiming that the Director of Football is ‘ready to buy’ Tchatchoua despite his €8m (£7m) price tag.

Hellas Verona only signed the 22-year-old full-back this very summer, turning his loan into a permanent deal for a mere £2.5million.
It is noted that the club would find it ‘difficult to resist’ the allure of such a big Premier League club and whatever funds they were willing to offer.
Clearly a side strapped for cash, perhaps now for once it could be Everton taking advantage of a financially damaged outfit.
Do Everton actually need Jackson Tchatchoua?
It seems quite strange that, of all the positions in their backline that Sean Dyche is choosing to bolster, right-back is atop that list.
After all, it is arguably the role that is most congested at the moment, with Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young all capable of playing there.

Meanwhile, Vitaliy Mykolenko sits alone on the opposite flank, with the 39-year-old his only alternative.
The sale of Ben Godfrey has decreased depth across the entire backline, as someone capable of playing anywhere when needed, but he was always a fringe option, making just 13 Premier League starts last season.
Tchatchoua is likely a fine asset and a solid defender, but with what precious funds the Toffees have left to expend this summer, perhaps they might best be invested into a higher-quality winger, or elsewhere in the defence.
