Everton’s deadline day has already started off with a blast, as they close in on their first signing of the day.
It was always expected to be hectic at Goodison Park, with Sean Dyche still wanting new additions, but their financial restrictions always add an element of unease about their desperation to wade into the market.
Fortunately, they are doing so with intelligence, linked with cut-price deals or straight loans to plug vacancies without offloading huge sums of money.
One such example is Everton’s completed deal to sign Orel Mangala, and another player from Lyon could now be on his way to Merseyside too.
Everton target Ernest Nuamah backed to leave his club
Taking to X, journalist Ed Aarons has sought to provide a much-needed update on Everton’s interest in Ernest Nuamah, which has seemingly cooled in recent hours.
That is, despite Lyon securing a replacement for Nuamah, which does speak volumes for their long-term planning despite having yet to negotiate an exit for the Ghanaian.

The Toffees are one of many suitors, with a fellow Premier League rival specifically noted by this reporter.
He writes: ‘Understand that Ernest Nuamah could still leave Lyon before the end of the transfer window. The Ghana midfielder has interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest.’
Ernest Nuamah could overthrow Jack Harrison’s Everton spot
Thus far this season, Jack Harrison has been almost assured his starting spot.
After all, whilst he has struggled to score or assist with any regularity since joining the club on loan last summer, his unrelenting work rate remains faultless, and enough for Dyche.

Even Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom have thus far been kept out of the team by the Leeds United man, despite their obvious quality.
However, should the Toffees now add Nuamah into the mix, it might prove a step too far to keep Harrison, who is not even permanently tied to the club, in the starting lineup.
Especially with the immense dynamism they are promised by signing this 20-year-old trickster.
He might suffer from a similar lack of end product to Harrison, but his pure pace and skill would petrify even the best of Premier League full-backs.

Flemming Pedersen, who managed Nuamah at FC Nordsjælland, once claimed: ‘Ernest is first and foremost a dribbler. He is incredibly fast, has a huge acceleration, and a good agility. He is primarily left-footed, but can also use the right. He is a great individualist with tremendous power, who has great potential to also become a skilled team player.’
This is exactly what Everton are missing, and Kevin Thelwell should be throwing everything at bringing him to Goodison Park.
