Everton boss David Moyes had a lot to say about Beto after Liverpool loss

Everton started Beto up front in the Merseyside derby, preferring him to Thierno Barry.

The towering Everton centre-forward has been given the nod to start in four out of the five Premier League games.

However, Beto has scored just one league goal and was actually taken off at half-time yesterday after a poor showing.

David Moyes was asked about the former Udinese frontman and doubled down on a previous comment he’s made.

David Moyes insists Beto will score goals

It hasn’t been the most convincing start to the season for Beto, but Moyes, speaking post-match, insisted that he will score goals if the service is right.

“We still need to supply the forwards with really good opportunities, so we know that,” the Scotsman admitted.

“We’ve been well aware of this. I’ve said many times, and I’ll say that again and I repeat myself, we don’t have the 70s or 80s (million pounds) or even more it takes to buy certain players, we’ve had to buy within our means and we’ll hugely support the ones we’ve got because they’ll score us goals and I’m sure they’ll get quite a few by the end of the season.”

Moyes was quite happy with Thierno Barry’s performance.

“I thought Barry came on and had moments as well, liked to play a couple of times, so he had bits of that, but he’s still learning as well. And certainly it’s a big place to learn coming to Anfield.”

Beto’s stats vs Liverpool

Beto’s SofaScore statistics evince what a difficult afternoon it was for him, as he had just 11 touches of the ball.

The 27-year-old’s passing was really sloppy, too, and he managed to get just one strike off, which was off target.

Barry was much cleaner in possession when he came on in the second half and actually had a pass completion rate of 100%.

He wasn’t given much service, though, so that will be something Moyes and his staff will be working on throughout the season.
