Everton can fill a gap after the transfer deadline as former David Moyes player is still a free agent

After a slow start to the summer transfer window, Everton ended it really strongly and made nine new signings.

David Moyes had a big rebuild job on his hands and was aiming to get 10 new additions through the door, so it was a near-perfect window.

Jack Grealish is already proving to be the signing of the summer, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has started exceptionally well, too.

Tyler Dibling was the most expensive recruit for the Toffees after completing a £40m transfer from Southampton.

There was one area of the squad, though, that Moyes didn’t manage to address, but he could still plug that cap with a free agent.

Everton could still sign Kurt Zouma

Whilst the summer transfer window is now officially shut, Everton can still actually make signings if they’re free agents.

There are some quite interesting options in the free agent market, with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Hakim Ziyech available.

However, considering Moyes was trying to sign Victor Lindelof just before the deadline, it’s clear Everton would prefer to bring in another central defender, rather than a creative player.

With that said, the Toffees could move for former centre-back Kurt Zouma, who has worked with Moyes at West Ham.

Zouma’s deal expired in East London this summer, and he is yet to find a new club despite interest from clubs in Spain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

What David Moyes has previously said about Kurt Zouma

Zouma is 30 years old and still has plenty to offer at the top level, so it would be a smart piece of business if Everton were to land his signature.

Plus, Moyes knows exactly what he’s getting from the Frenchman, so the bedding-in process would be pretty minimal.

Zouma is also exceptional in the air, so he’d bring an aerial threat in both boxes, which is an added bonus.

“I thought Kurt was exceptional today,” Moyes previously said about the defender.

“Strong, commanding, he had a couple of incredible blocks late in the game when we needed him. He was powerful in the air and aggressive at times. He won a great race on a one v one situation in the first half. I thought Kurt played well.”
