Everton are working away to bolster their squad – and the club have again been linked with a move for Rico Lewis.

Everton have been somewhat productive so far, completing three deals. Hayden Hackney arrived from Middlesbrough, with Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl signing permanently.

Just focusing on Everton’s right-back search, who should the club bring in this summer and why? 🤔

From Spence, to White, to Norton-Cuffy, there have been links to so many players so far…

But fans have been disappointed about the lack of movement on a new right-back.

Plenty of players have been linked, but there has not yet been any movement, with a number of targets seeing a big increase in their valuations after playing at the World Cup.

But one man Everton have had eyes on is Rico Lewis, and past comments from Pep Guardiola may well make this a no-brainer.

A fresh report from TEAMtalk today has claimed Everton like Lewis, and that David Moyes is a fan of the player.

On the face of it, Lewis is not a typical Moyes signing, with the Scot having an admiration for players who are physically strong and tall.

Lewis obviously isn’t either of those things, but he does have the ability to play in several different positions, which is part of the lure.

Lewis is also a highly intelligent operator, and has previously been likened to German legend Philipp Lahm by none other than Pep Guardiola.

How would you rate the potential signing of Rico Lewis as our new right-back? 🤩

Guardiola and Grealish absolutely adore him… 👏

He said in 2023 (via Sky Sports): “There are players who play for themselves really well, but he has the ability to make all the team play better.

“He has this ability and it’s not easy to find it. He is our little Philipp Lahm.

“He is so clever, so intelligent. Every moment, he knows when to open inside, and what to do.”

Guardiola is also on record as saying Lewis is one of the best players he’s ever trained.

Everton obviously have a great need for a new right-back at the moment. But cover at left-back would also be nice, with Adam Aznou potentially leaving the club. Lewis is certainly no stranger to playing on the left

Idrissa Gana Gueye and Tim Iroegbunam could also be departing. Lewis can also play as a holding midfielder.

Rico Lewis games by position for Man City
Total appearances – 116
Right-back – 56
Defensive midfield – 21
Left-back – 13
Central midfield – 8
Right midfield – 4
Centre-back – 1
Attacking midfield – 1

So Everton could genuinely sign a player who could cover three positions.

And despite only being 21, Lewis has played a lot of games already and obviously been part of a winning culture at City.

He will have learned so much there, and given his asking price is about £30 million, there are certainly plenty of reasons to explore this move.
