Everton’s CEO Colin Chong has today issued a response to John Textor after his comments circulated through the media.

The 58-year-old, who has been linked with a full takeover of the Toffees for some time now, has never been shy to voice his opinion throughout his time in the footballing world.

Whether it be financial restrictions or biases within the game, John Textor calls them out, and to some degree that is admirable.

However, in this particular situation, where a degree of respect is needed, he has not shown it.

Everton CEO responds to John Textor comments

A statement issued earlier today, Colin Chong is not one to comment often about issues involving the club.

However, when he does wade into action, it’s normally over important issues.

This particular claim pertains to Textor’s recent comments, with the key parts of the statement reading: ‘The Club is aware of the comments made by John Textor in relation to a potential purchase of the Club.

‘While positive conversations and progress continues to be made with Mr Textor to formalise any deal with him, there remains some work to be done to complete the transaction.

‘Accordingly, the comments made by Mr Textor merely represent his personal view on Club matters.’

Everton essentially tell John Textor to keep quiet

It feels like, with this rebuttal, the club have effectively told the American to keep quiet until something real materialises.

And, that is the ideal way that they would approach this deal.

In fact, this notion from Chong actually brings credence to what many claimed, with some Evertonians drawing parallels with Textor and Farhad Moshiri given his desperation to wade into the media.

Keeping affairs private seems to be the best way to run a sustainable, smooth and progressive footballing business, as Manchester City have shown across the last decade or so.

This brash openness is very American, and could get old very quickly if he gets into power and does not back up his bold words with tangible progress.
