Everton used to have an elite technician standing over set-pieces in Leighton Baines.
The man born in Kirkby scored eight free-kicks during his time at Everton, and also delivered 64 assists largely thanks to his immense ability from dead-ball situations.
However, since Leighton Baines departed in 2020, Everton have lacked a player who single-handedly gets the crowd excited when a set-piece is awarded, but that could soon change under David Moyes if a deal for Harry Wilson materialises.
How good of a signing would this be for Everton? 👀
Everton are showing an interest…
Everton can bring a dead-ball genius to David Moyes in Harry Wilson
It was TEAMtalk who claimed that Everton are hoping to sign Wilson this month, after he entered the final six months of his contract at Fulham.
The Wales international is yet to sign a new deal at Craven Cottage, so a sale could happen or else Fulham risk losing the 28-year-old for nothing this summer.
If Everton can fend off the likes of Leeds to sign Wilson, it would be seriously exciting for supporters, even more so when officials award the Toffees a set-piece.
The Welshman has proven to be something of a genius from these situations, already scoring more than Baines ever managed in his entire career with ten goals from direct free-kicks so far.
As you can see in the example above, Wilson has a wicked left foot – just like Baines – and seems capable of scoring in a variety of ways from these situations, whether it be a curled effort or a ferocious knuckleball.
James Tarkowski and Michael Keane would presumably love Everton to sign Harry Wilson
Not only can Wilson make Everton a threat from free-kicks on the edge of the box, but the likes of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane would surely salivate at the thought of his delivery from corners.
Particularly when it comes to Keane – who has an impressive record of 19 goals and ten assists for Everton in 251 appearances – it should excite him to potentially have an expert technician whipping the ball towards his head, something he has rarely experienced since joining the Toffees in July 2017.
If you were David Moyes, which three players would you want to sign in January?
Hopefully, Everton can win the race for Wilson and hand Moyes a potentially game-changing addition.
