Everton fans want to see a big response after the club’s sorry end to 2025/26 – and there is one combination that could wreak havoc going forward.
Everton lost their last seven games of last season to slip to 13th in the table, which was bitterly disappointing.
The Toffees had European football well within their grasp, even just a few weeks out from the end of the campaign.
How excited are you by Everton’s signing of Tyrique George on a permanent deal? Can he really kick on now after his loan?
The deal is now official, with the Toffees paying an initial £18m, with £6m to come in potential add-ons… ✅
But they blew it, with too many players losing form and David Moyes also arguably not rotating enough.
Everton must now respond, and three deals have already been completed this summer.
One of those was bringing back Tyrique George on a permanent deal – and Moyes could hand him the perfect foil to boast a destructive new pairing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tyrique George and Djed Spence could be a destructive pairing for Everton

Of course, right-back is a priority position at the moment for Everton.
But it has seemingly been proving difficult to get someone in, with several targets shining at the World Cup.
One player who has done that is Djed Spence, who came onto Everton’s radar a few weeks ago.
His inclusion in the England squad this summer was criticised by many, but he has actually proven to be a very important player for Thomas Tuchel.
After a string of good cameo performances, Spence’s valuation has now risen, and Tottenham Hotspur are not going to sell him on the cheap.
But Everton still have to see what they can do here, because potentially he and George could be a devastating pairing.
Just focusing on Everton’s right-back search, who should the club bring in this summer and why? 🤔
From Spence, to White, to Norton-Cuffy, there have been links to so many players so far…
Something that’s been notable with Everton in recent times is that the team lacks pace.
That’s why many were pleased when George came in on loan and when he recently signed permanently, because he has the burst of speed that no one else really has.
If Moyes got Spence in and played him behind George, on either flank since both players are versatile enough to swap sides, then that could cause major problems for opposition wingers and full-backs.
It would be a frightening sight for opposition players to see George running at full speed with the ball, with Spence flying down the wing looking to overlap.
Spence made the fourth-fastest sprint in the Premier League last season, being clocked at 36.62 km/h against Wolves (via Premier League).
We haven’t seen pure pace on the Everton wings for such a long time.

But Moyes can find a new dynamic with George and Spence, so hopefully Everton can bring the Tottenham Hotspur man in.
At the moment, though, interest in him is high, and Inter Milan have just joined the chase for Spence after their deal for Anan Khalaili collapsed.
It won’t be easy, but Spence has proven over the summer that he’s got a lot of desirable attributes.
