Everton’s most expensive winger signings and where £24m Tyrique George is set to rank

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Tyrique George on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

It has been a productive week for the Toffees, who signed Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, and are now poised to make their second signing of the window.

George, of course, spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton.

Now Hackney is confirmed, who should Everton be bringing in next? 💰

But his lack of starting opportunities from David Moyes has cast doubt on Everton signing him permanently.

But Everton have now reached a deal worth up to £24 million, and we look at where that would put him in terms of the most expensive wingers in the club’s history.

It has been widely reported that Everton stand to pay a total fee of £24 million for George.

That is actually the same figure as what they negotiated as part of the loan agreement, but it seems Everton have managed to work out a slightly different structure.

According to BBC Sport, the initial payment will be around £18 million, with the rest of the money coming through add-ons.

Chelsea will also have a 15% sell-on clause over George’s next transfer.

Everton paying an initial £18 million is positive and will likely help with cash flow, and £24 million overall seems like a solid bit of business for a player of George’s potential.

But where does that put him in terms of the most expensive wingers ever at Everton?

If the move goes through as expected, George should become the club’s fourth most expensive winger of all-time.

If the add-ons were never paid, he would be seventh on the list.

But the hope is that George is now set for a long and successful spell at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which would mean those add-ons are paid.

It is a pleasantly surprising move by Everton, especially after many felt George lacked opportunities from Moyes.

Many feared he would not be coming back.

But clearly, the manager does see big potential in him and George’s time on loan at Everton clearly made a lasting impression on him.

Quite possibly, we could see George play more from the right side in 2026/27, especially if the club also land Keito Nakamura. The club are said to be looking at more wingers.

Ideally, we will just see George break into the starting XI early doors next season, and we get to see that pace and direct dribbling cause big problems for opposition full-backs.
