Tottenham join transfer race for ‘outstanding’ Everton star ahead of January

Everton may have to reject advances for Jarrad Branthwaite in January.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who have reported that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for the defender.

Jarrad Branthwaite was brought back to Goodison Park after a stellar loan spell with PSV, and has been one of Everton’s best players since.

The centre-back’s brilliant performances earned interest from Manchester United and Man City over the summer, but he eventually put pen to paper on a new four-year contract earlier this month.

Branthwaite has continued to impress in the Premier League and, as a result, clubs are choosing to ignore his latest deal as they consider swooping for him in January.

Newcastle United have already been linked and now Tottenham are the latest side to join them in their pursuit.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have suffered an injury crisis in recent weeks, with Micky van de Ven set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Eric Dier’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Spurs are now eager to bolster their backline and see both Branthwaite and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as potential January signings.

Recent reports have claimed that Everton could be forced to offload some key players following their recent 10-point deduction, as they are looking to balance the books ahead of a potential £300m lawsuit placed against them by Burnley, Leicester City and Leeds United.

Is Jarrad Branthwaite’s future out of Everton’s hands?

Jarrad Branthwaite has been exceptional for Everton since coming into the side this season.

The Toffees had conceded five goals in only two games before the ‘outstanding’ 21-year-old was brought into the starting line-up, while they have shipped in only five goals in their last six games all together.

The youngster has really helped turn things around at Goodison Park, but his future is far from guaranteed.

Branthwaite clearly wants to stay on Merseyside otherwise he wouldn’t have signed a new deal, but the point deduction and looming compensation claim makes things a little bit sticky at the club.

Through no fault of their own, this Everton team could end up playing Championship football next year, and their future could be confirmed much earlier than May if they go into administration.

But for now, these players need to carry on playing the way they have been and focus on picking up results, because they have been doing that very well for some time now.
