Everton warned they should be ‘worried’ by recent threat after points deduction

Everton have been warned that they shouldn’t be ‘foolish’ following threats by Leicester City, Leeds United and Burnley.

That’s according to journalist Paul Brown, who has claimed that the three clubs will go ahead with their claim as they look to take £300 million in compensation from the Toffees.

Everton have already been hit with a ten-point deduction for breaking financial fair play rules when they posted losses of around £19 million more than the Premier League’s maximum amount over a three-year period.

While Everton have confirmed they will appeal the huge point deduction, they also face further punishment from Leicester, Leeds and Burnley.

The three clubs have confirmed their intention to sue the Premier League outfit for loss of income after they all competed with Everton in a relegation battle over the last couple of years, with all three finding themselves in the Championship as a result.

The Daily Mail have now reported that the £300m case against them could even plunge them into administration, which would open them up to a further point deduction.

While the Merseyside club will be putting all their focus into getting their ten-point deduction reduced, Paul Brown has suggested that they should really be preparing to battle these claims that could leave them in even more hot water.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “I think Everton would be foolish not to be worried about potential claims by Leicester, Leeds and Burnley. This has been something that’s been rumbling in the background for a long time now. Those three clubs have been briefing the media about their intention to do this and I’m told they will go through with the threat.

“There was a verdict in a separate hearing, confirming they do have a potential claim. That claim will now be heard as part of this process and while it’s going to be incredibly difficult to quantify the losses that those clubs incurred, the Independent Commission did find that Everton gained a sporting advantage from their overspending.”

Should Everton be worried about £300m compensation claim?

It really isn’t looking like good news for Everton, with Leicester, Leeds and Burnley likely to have a good case against them.

If the Toffees have already been found to have gained a sporting advantage from their overspending, then their narrow avoidance of relegation in the past two years is certainly a controversial one.

For now though, Everton need to focus on picking up as many points and moving out of the relegation zone for a second time.

Sean Dyche’s side have tough games against the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea coming up and they definitely don’t want to be stuck even further from safety come the new year.
