Dwight McNeil has had his fair share of critics this season, but Everton appear to be eyeing someone who’d be a serious upgrade.
Dwight McNeil has made 17 appearances so far this term, and by and large he has struggled – certainly in terms of final third output.
McNeil always works hard, but fans have grown frustrated by his lack of goals and assists.
What will you think about TFG if Everton don’t address their needs in the winter window? 🤔
The pressure is on The Friedkin Group according to Alan Myers…
He grabbed an assist against Nottingham Forest before the turn of the year, and in Sunday’s win over Aston Villa, it was he who had the shot that led to Emi Martinez parrying the ball to Thierno Barry to score.
He was much better against Villa.
But the feeling for many is that McNeil is a player Everton could definitely upgrade on.
And Harry Wilson certainly feels like he’d be just that for the Toffees.

Harry Wilson would be a Dwight McNeil upgrade

Everton are reportedly working on a deal to convince Wilson to sign this month, with the winger’s contract at Fulham expiring in the summer.
Simply put, this is an exciting link. Because Wilson has been having a tremendous season at Craven Cottage.
Even only casual viewers of football will have found it hard to avoid Wilson this term, because he’s scored several brilliant goals for Fulham that have gone viral on social media.
In total so far he’s scored eight goals, and laid on a further six assists. So 14 goal contributions in just half a season.
How good of a signing would this be for Everton? 👀
Everton are showing an interest…
For some context, McNeil has managed 34 goal contributions in three-and-a-half years at Everton.
Wilson’s overall record at Fulham is actually quietly impressive. In 171 games, he’s bagged 33 goals and supplied 43 assists. One more goal will actually see him climb into the top 10 of Fulham’s list of all-time Premier League scorers.
Taking a look at some other statistics on fbref, Wilson has averaged 1.27 progressive carries of the ball per 90 so far this season. McNeil’s is only 0.93, suggesting the Fulham man is the more positive player.
Wilson also has a much higher shots on target percentage at 36.7%, compared to McNeil’s 18.2%.
McNeil should be sweating over Wilson rumours
Wilson tends to play from the right side, but he can also operate on the left and even centrally.
This essentially means that he would be a direct rival for McNeil if he signed. Tyler Dibling would perhaps also suffer slightly, but the teenager has been bought with the long term future in mind.
McNeil is 26 and given he’s less likely to develop further, he would surely be in danger of falling by the wayside if a player like Wilson came in.

We will see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
Fulham could well try and sell him to avoid losing him for free if he won’t extend his contract.
And if Everton can get him this month on a cut-price deal then that would simply be amazing, and go a long way to helping the Toffees become better in the final third.
