Everton could soon do something that hasn’t happened in 27 years in the Premier League

The 2026/27 season is not too far away now – and Everton have the potential to do something extremely rare in their first game of the season.

It’s been a decent start to the summer for the Toffees, with three deals being confirmed.

Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl have turned their loan moves permanent now, and before that, Hayden Hackney arrived from Middlesbrough.

How excited are you by Everton’s signing of Tyrique George on a permanent deal? Can he really kick on now after his loan?

The deal is now official, with the Toffees paying an initial £18m, with £6m to come in potential add-ons… ✅

The addition of Hackney further strengthens Everton’s English contingent, although it’s currently unclear if Jack Grealish will be back next season, amid reports he could get another chance at Manchester City.

But Everton sure do have plenty of Englishmen in their ranks, and it’s not out of the question David Moyes could do something very rare.

How Everton could field an all-English XI in 2026/27

The Premier League has long been the home of international players.

The English top-flight has seen some truly magnificent players come and go, and that will continue to be the case for as long as it exists, such is the money behind its members.

Certainly these days, it is unheard of for any top-flight club to field an XI that is entirely English.

But Moyes could actually do it if a few more pieces fell into place and if he wanted to, of course.

Jordan Pickford would play in goal, and then Everton could potentially have one of Djed Spence, Ben White or Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back. All three are on the Toffees’ radar, with right-back a priority position.

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane could pair up in the middle, although given the way they ended last season, most likely fans wouldn’t want to see that.

Jarrad Branthwaite had a couple of outings at left-back last term and could complete the back four.

In midfield, James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are a trio we could genuinely see a fair bit in 2026/27.

Tyler Dibling and Jack Grealish could be the wide men, although Dibling has today been linked with RB Leipzig. There could also be work to do to re-sign Grealish.

Up top, fans were frustrated by Thierno Barry and Beto last season, so perhaps Tyrique George could be an option. George played through the middle as a striker as he developed in Chelsea’s academy.

Realistically, it’s highly unlikely Moyes would ever field this XI. But if he did, then it would be the first instance in the Premier League since 1999.

The last time an all-English XI was fielded in the Premier League was when Aston Villa did it against Coventry City 27 years ago. John Gregory was the manager, and Villa lost that game 4-1. Gregory also made three substitutions, all of whom were also English.

There could be the potential for Everton to do it and with Moyes so unpredictable with his team selections sometimes, you never know.
