Everton players have returned for pre-season training in preparation for the Premier League opener against Leeds United at Elland Road.

The new 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off in just over a month’s time, and Everton have been working hard to get new players through the door.

Thierno Barry is about to become Everton’s second signing of the summer after a £27m fee was agreed with Villarreal.

The Toffees are also working on a deal to sign Hayden Hackney from Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

So, when the new campaign begins, Everton’s squad should be in a much healthier place and with that said, the Premier League have just made an announcement regarding a fixture change.

Everton fans buzzing at Premier League fixture change

Everton’s first home game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion was due to take place at 3pm on Saturday the 23rd of August.

Indeed, that wouldn’t have allowed the grand opening of the Hill Dickinson Stadium to be on TV, so the Premier League have decided to move it to Sunday the 24th of August.

Everton fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to the announcement, and they’re buzzing.

“Never checked a bank holiday Monday so quick in my life. Didn’t think town after that last match at Goodison could ever be topped, but big potential here,” @nsno_83 posted.

“Sunday 2pm is the new Saturday 3pm. Give it a couple years and suddenly all PL games will move to default Sunday 2pm,” @HJJ92_ explained.

“Bank holiday Sunday in town you say? Go on then,” @LeeFMc83 commented.

@BrianSaylePhoto said. “I’m happy with this, just as long as the ferry is running!!!”

“Good happy with that,” @Tonyyates1878 admitted.

@EllBretland noted: “The same date Goodison Park was opened by Lord Kinnaird and Frederick Wall of the FA in 1892.”

Everton’s first-ever game at Hill Dickinson will be watched by massive audience

Everton’s atmosphere for the first game at the Hill Dickinson is set to be electric, and evidently, broadcasters are keen to capture that.

The game will be watched by a massive audience, and from a commercial aspect, it’s good news for the club.

Each Premier League club is given an equal share of domestic and overseas TV deals, but the Toffees will qualify for an extra facility fee depending on the number of times they’re broadcast.

So this fixture change will certainly help in achieving greater revenue.
