Thierno Barry scored a brace off the bench against Manchester City on Monday night.
David Moyes set Thierno Barry a target of nine Premier League goals before the 3-3 draw with Man City, so he’s now up to eight for the season.
If Barry can get to double figures in the final three games of the campaign, then you’d have to say he’s made a good impact.
Who would you be starting up front on Sunday against Crystal Palace? 😬
Do you stick with Beto or reward Barry for Monday's brace? 🤔
That certainly hasn’t felt like the case for the majority of his first 10 months on Merseyside, though, as he’s really flattered to deceive at times.
That said, we decided to ask Everton fans on TalkingPoints whether the Frenchman is owed an apology after all the criticism he’s had.
Do we all owe this man an apology after his performance against Man City? 👀
Credit where it's due, he was absolutely fantastic! 👏
Everton fans still not convinced by Thierno Barry
Replying to the TalkingPoint above, Everton supporters are clearly still not convinced by the 23-year-old striker.
Many feel he’s still a work in progress and has many areas of his game that need significant development, such as his hold-up play.
- “There has never been any doubt about his ability to finish. He doesn’t do enough of the ugly work, challenging CB’s, holding up the ball and such.”
- “Still weak with the ball and absent in defence. Most of his goals this season anyone would have scored and just as many missed that should have been scored. Times up, send him out, don’t even include him as an option to sub, we have better.”
- “You’ve got to give him credit for being in the right place at the right time, but he still has a lot to prove. Interesting to see who starts against Palace.”
- “The lad has been poor and has plenty of opportunity to show that he has something. He has not done that and he now knows he must do better. To be fair to Barry, he got the message and gave a decent account of himself and that is all we ask for.”
- “He was in the right place at the right time, but still a work in progress.”
- “Too inconsistent, too much like Beto, but at least Beto got a bigger presence and body strength.”
As one of the fans above referenced, it’ll be fascinating to see whether Moyes starts Barry up front against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Based on merit, he probably should, but there still seems to be a feeling around the place that Beto just offers way more.
The 28-year-old has scored five goals in his last seven games, so he remains in a good patch of form as well.
Given the way Palace set up, with three big centre-backs in a back five, Moyes may decide to go with Beto due to his physicality.
Plus, it’s an away game and Selhurst Park can be quite a cauldron at times, so experienced players usually get the nod.
