Everton thought they had a late goal but it was chalked off for offside after a VAR check, which has led to fans all saying the same thing about it after the game.
Sean Dyche opted for Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the start at St Mary’s, but he just wasn’t able to have any kind of impact on the game and was taken off around the 60th minute mark.
It was Beto who looked like saving the day before VAR got involved and ruled it out.
Everton deserved to lose the game as they were far from their best, with possession often given away easily and chances wasted in front of goal.
It really is worrying for the Toffees to give 66% possession to what was the worst side in the Premier League before the game, which has been highlighted as an issue for Everton.

VAR rules out Beto’s equaliser for offside after a check
Beto and another Everton player were adjudged to be in an offside position, when the ball was played over the defence, but it does look tight.
This isn’t the first time this season that Everton fans have been slightly unhappy with a VAR decision, as there was all the controversy with Dan Burn bringing Dominic Calvert-Lewin down against Newcastle.
Nevertheless, we have to trust that the officials made the right decision.
Everton had the chances to score to score but passed up on them; they’ve only got themselves to blame for such a disappointing performance.
Everton fans react to VAR’s decision to overturn the goal
These Everton fans, when speaking on X, all said the same thing about VAR.
“Not convinced. When are they getting rid of this system.”, @JohnnyOrbell said.
@Ffbmartin2 wasn’t happy: “Just scrap VAR at this point, the position of the foot should be the offside.”
@DominicGPoynter stated: “Isn’t the RED line closer to he goal?? I thought the blue line would need to closer to the saints goal. That’s a BAD call.”
@SimonNicholasP2 mentioned: “This whole offside jeopardy is just for the armchairs and Sky – RID US OF IT NOW – not what VAR was for … clear water – end of.”
“We may as well just go to officiating by video monitor. We don’t need the on-field refs.”, @GOT_TXBill questions what the point of referees and linesmans are.
@Lea_EFC commented: “That’s VAR costing Everton again.”
