Everton have suffered their first transfer blow ahead of the summer transfer window.
After it emerged that Everton held positive talks with Liam Delap, many felt David Moyes and his chiefs may have done enough to convince him to join.
However, David Ornstein has just announced that Chelsea have won the race to sign Liam Delap and will now activate his £30m release clause.
The 22-year-old has informed Everton that he will not be joining them, so it’s back to the drawing board ahead of the window opening in three days.
Toffees fans have been reacting to the Liam Delap news on X, formerly known as Twitter, and they’re all saying the same thing.

Everton fans react to Liam Delap joining Chelsea
Everton fans are all in agreement that Delap has made the wrong choice for his career and some are suggesting that there’s better out there anyway.
@SeanMartin1979 posted: “No great loss. He was garbage against us at Goodison last month. We move on…”
“If that’s the case then he has just lost two years of his career. His chances of playing for England. Plus moved there for money nothing else. Bad move and advice by his agents,” @Efc240578 added.
@baileydarren1 said: “Wrong move, silly boy. Chasing the money rather than the playing time. Won’t play half the games he’d play with us. Prediction is less than 10 goals next season, loaned in either Jan or next Summer. Moved on within 3 seasons.”
“I won’t lose sleep over this he looks ok but didn’t look anything special TBH,” @mah88312221 commented.
@Mac_Paul0 pointed out: “Worse goals/mins played ratio than Beto..”
“Enjoy your 8 starts next season buddy,” @Adam_EFC_1878 said.
Everton have plenty of other options
Everton have plenty of other good options to target, so it’s certainly not a major blow by any means.
The Toffees’ interest in Nick Woltemade has been well documented and Rangers’ Hamza Igamane was of serious interest to Moyes in January.
There’s also been talk of Richarlison returning to Finch Farm, with his Tottenham Hotspur future in jeopardy.
Everton fans would love to see Richarlison back, and he has been teasing fans on social media about a possible homecoming.
So, they’re certainly not short of choices.
