Everton are on the verge of signing Fulham defender Kenny Tete.

With Ashley Young set to leave Everton, David Moyes has been in the transfer market for a new right-back.

First, the Toffees looked at Kyle-Walker Peters from Southampton, whilst Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey was also a consideration.

Kyle Walker emerged as a top target for Moyes, but now it seems Everton are about to sign Kenny Tete on a free transfer instead.

With that said, fans are all saying the same thing about the deal to sign Tete.

Everton supporters have had a lot to say about the Tete transfer on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Honestly for a free agent, that’s a brilliant deal,” @madman_good said.

@lewyb49 posted: “Does the job for Fulham, he’s an aggressive player and he can attack too.”

“If this is true I’d be pretty happy with this. He impressed me at Goodison in October – he kept Ndiaye very quiet. I’ve not watched a great deal (any) of Fulham outside of that game, but I haven’t mentally noted many right backs doing as well against Ndiaye last season,” @Birchy_Steve commented.

“Think the strength to Tete is that he can also play as a right-sided midfielder. I think it’s a smart signing on a free,” @MrTimTam1999 added.

@andy_francis2 said: “Solid signing on a free, Kyle Walker massive wages and he’s well past his best, I’m happy.”

@h_army360 noted: “Fullback under 30,” accompanied by a shocked emoji.

Tete’s career background

Tete is a highly experienced right-back who’s played at the very highest level at a number of different clubs.

He started his career at Ajax and enjoyed a really productive three years in the first team, including reaching the Europa League final in 2017.

The 14-cap Netherlands international then moved on to French giants Lyon, where he made 80 appearances before a move to Fulham beckoned in 2020.

And now, after 121 appearances with the Cottagers, establishing himself as a real stalwart, he’s set to complete a switch to Merseyside.

Tete could become the first-choice right-back, with Jake O’Brien moving back to his favoured role at the heart of defence.
