Everton battled hard against the Premier League leaders Arsenal, but ultimately, they were undone by two late goals.
The Toffees worked their socks off against Arsenal and perhaps should’ve come away from North London with a point.
How have we come away from that with nothing? 😫
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall covered the most distance on the pitch, which sums up the kind of game the visitors had to play.
Everton fans, reacting to the game on TalkingPoints and on our Facebook page, came to the same conclusion on what cost them a result.
Everton fans agree the lack of a goalscorer cost them vs Arsenal
Everton’s Achilles heel this season has been their profligate strikers, as Thierno Barry and Beto have netted just 10 Premier League goals between them.
Who was your Man of the Match in what was a positive performance? 👏
The players deserved so much more… 😡
Beto was given the nod to start against Arsenal and proved exactly why David Moyes must sign a new centre-forward in the summer.
Fans all agreed the lack of a goalscorer was their main issue in the defeat at the Emirates.
- Simple, we haven’t got strikers and sorry that gets to the players. They get chances but just not good enough to put them away. Arsenal bring on a young lad, bang scores, other teams will play their young players, and this is the result, they score.”
- “Gutted, though pleased with the performance, just having decent forwards was the difference.”
- “Well, same old story. We weren’t bad, but unless we get goal scorers, we will suffer.”
- “We need strikers, someone we can pump the ball up to and say ‘get on that’, we’ve got nothing, it’s like playing with 10 men. And I know someone will say Barry has scored a few, but that’s why he’s paid a lot of money. Shame he can’t do it every week or at least the basics.”
- “Both strikers aren’t good. We have a young lad from Chelsea who could play as striker, but not being used. We’ve got enough points to stay up – so play the young Chelsea player, Moyes.”
- “We had nothing up front, & no creativity from midfield, we defended well & midfield broke Arsenal play up, but midfield also gave the ball back to Arsenal too easily.”
The Toffees are already looking at a number of strikers ahead of the transfer window, with Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Remember him at Crystal Palace… would you like to see Sorloth at the Hill Dickinson Stadium? 👀
AZ Alkmaar frontman Troy Parrott is also on Moyes’ radar after his prolific season in the Eredivisie.
Parrott, who has netted an impressive 26 goals this season, is reportedly available for around £15m, which seems like a bargain.
Beto should be moved on, and Barry perhaps as an understudy to the new number nine next season.
