Everton have six players out of contract at the end of the season.
Michael Keane is one of those due to become a free agent, so Everton will have to make a decision on his future very soon.
Speaking last month, Keane did admit he wants to stay: “I’m really happy with how I’ve performed. I still feel like I’m in my twenties. I train well every day, I feel physically really good.
“We do sprints every week and I know I’m not getting any slower. I don’t feel like I’ve ever been a player that’s relied on my pace. So, I know I’ve got a lot to give and I’ve got a lot of years left. Hopefully I can be here for as long as possible.”
So, with that said, we decided to ask our TalkingPoints users whether the Toffees should renew his contract.

Does Michael Keane deserve a new contract at Everton? 😬
He is currently set to become a free agent in the summer… 👋
Everton fans have mixed opinions about renewing Michael Keane’s contract
There’s no doubt Keane has exceeded expectations this season.
The 33-year-old has been excellent in Jarrad Branthwaite’s absence, but that’s not enough to convince some fans that he should stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.
- “Sorry it’s time to move him on. The team needs younger players and until we do, the club will be going nowhere and it’s not just Keane, there’s a few players.”
- “Whether he deserves one or not, he will get a new contract.”
- “Keane definitely deserves a new contract. He’s had his best season for many years. Calm and solid in defence and capable of scoring goals. He’s a no-brainer addition to the squad, especially as his cost would be relatively cheap.”
- “He does (deserve a new deal), he has been playing well. Put him up front for the rest of the season.”
- “You just know Moyes will keep him on and Gana.”
- “All depends on the Stones rumour. Although we could be looking at him because Branthwaite is going.”
Don Hutchinson believes Jarell Quansah would be the perfect Keane replacement if he were to leave this summer.
John Stones has also been mooted as Keane’s successor, as he’s due to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Stones would be an upgrade, however, the Manchester City defender would cost significantly more.
According to Capology, the England international earns around £250,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium.
He’s also struggled with injuries, so perhaps retaining Keane’s signature would be a much wiser move.
