Everton and its fanbase have made their feelings known on the recent ruling by the Premier League.
Having lobbied to see the Toffees deducted 12 points, the independent commission would settle on ten, much to the displeasure of those associated with the club.
They felt that, for what was a £19m overspend outside of their profit and sustainability rules, such a harsh and exorbitant decision marked an unnecessary outcome, and one which was shrouded in political ideals rather than ensuring the continued fairness of the division.
Especially since, after all, that is not what they are seeking to do.
Never has the English top flight been fair, with the top clubs always benefiting from their stature, which the smaller sides cannot compare to. Financial Fair Play has only sought to widen that gap.
So, it should come as no surprise that a bold and daring group of Evertonians have set out to display their feelings this Sunday.
Whilst protest will be widespread during the 4:30 pm kick-off at Goodison Park, a separate motion has been put in place to get as many eyes as possible on their plight.
Ran by The 1878s, a fan group who garnered nearly £40k in donations earlier in the week, they outlined what would occur, before the Daily Mail picked up the story and noted the ‘anti-Premier League’ message they are seeking to send to ‘millions around the world’ in their print edition.
Why are Everton fans protesting?
The protest comes following the aforementioned landmark ruling, in which Everton were deducted ten points. Whilst a punishment was expected, given the fans have arguably been the most vocal on the failures of their ownership, such a severe sporting sanction seems unjust given the commission found that no sporting advantage had been gained.
Having unloaded untold riches on transfers in the past, recent years have seen such spending cut back significantly in an effort to avoid this exact outcome.
As such, they remained constantly transparent, actually admitting to their transgressions but with a view to reform.
The Premier League have seemingly taken that trust and thrown it away, with Manchester City still unpunished despite the severity of their 100+ breaches.
A protest is more than justified, with the Premier League set to face a persisting firestorm until justice is served in the eyes of Evertonians.
