Everton fans now say they have a player worth ‘at least £75m’ – and he only cost £9m

Everton have made many signings in recent years who have lacked resale value.

The Toffees suffered huge losses on the likes of Theo Walcott, Yannick Bolasie, Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes, Davy Klaassen and Jean-Philippe Gbamin in the past decade under the questionable leadership of Farhad Moshiri.

However, the tide is starting to turn nowadays, as some Everton fans believe James Garner is now worth almost £70m more than the £9m spent to sign him from Manchester United in September 2022.

Fans think Everton struck gold with £9m James Garner deal

When asked on our very own TalkingPoints channel how much the 24-year-old is currently worth, Everton supporters were largely all on the same page.

One fan kickstarted the conversation by writing “£50m” before another quickly added: “£80m no problem – look at what clubs are paying for players that are not half as good as James, glad to see he is staying with us.”

That is of course an acknowledgement to the fact Garner recently signed a new contract with Everton which runs until July 2030.

Another supporter wrote on TalkingPoints: “At least £75m!”

A fourth added: “Right now? Priceless.”

Furthermore, another Everton fan said it would be a crime if Thomas Tuchel overlooks Garner for the next England squad, posting: “Got to be between £70m/£80m and if he doesn’t make (the) next England squad there’s something wrong.”

Last but by no means the least, another wrote: “As a young Englishman, he is worth about £40m to £50m to PL (Premier League) teams.”

Garner is even rubbing shoulders with the likes of Declan Rice and Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League this season in terms of chances created – so the Toffees arguably have a £100m asset when you consider how expensive players are in modern football.

Everton need to think carefully about how to build around James Garner

That £9m deal has proven to be a genius move, but the task for Everton now is to ensure they pack other quality players around Garner in midfield.

There are no wrong answers here! They have all been sensational this season 🔥

But which two are you starting if you're Moyes? 🤷‍♂️

Idrissa Gueye is exactly that, but the Senegal international is now 36 and coming to the end of his career.

Merlin Rohl has shown glimpses that he could be a suitable long-term partner for Garner, but other classy options are required for depth if Everton are to achieve something special in the near future.
