David Moyes has a large number of Everton players out of contract in the summer as decisions need to be made.

Moyes has got plenty to ponder with his current Everton squad, with futures around the club needing clarity.

It’s suggested that Idrissa Gana Gueye has agreed an Everton contract, but this hasn’t been made official yet.

Gueye has been excellent at Everton and seems to be an option that Moyes can rely upon.

Well, another player who has made a solid start under the Toffees boss may now see his time at Everton coming to an end as the Friedkin Group have made a big decision.

Everton reject Abdoulaye Doucoure one-year extension

Abdoulaye Doucoure has played a pivotal role at Everton over the years.

Coming up in the clutch moments, the 32-year-old has shined both under Sean Dyche and Moyes.

Dyche transformed Doucoure at Everton as Moyes has continued the former Toffees boss’ project with the Mali international, with him flourishing in an attacking role for Everton.

But after all his success, Everton have decided not to trigger a one-year extension in Doucoure’s contract, according to The Athletic.

This means, as it stands, the Everton midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season, and the Toffees would now have to renegotiate completely fresh terms if they want him to stay.

With Doucoure being the current highest earner at Everton with a wage of £130,000 per week, this could put his future with the club in serious doubt, as Evertonians have reacted.

Everton fans praise the Friedkin Group for Doucoure decision

It seems as though there will be mixed feelings with this news, as you can’t deny the impact Doucoure has had on Everton.

With that being said, having a 32-year-old on ludicrous wages may send a big red flag to the Friedkins, hence the option not to extend by one year.

After this announcement, Everton fans have praised the ownership on X for making a difficult but smart decision.

@ShrimptonJason said: “Clever business from Everton regarding Doucoure.. Potentially renegotiate terms of another year on better terms for the club! But I would say we have a massive summer coming up.. And the extra body on better terms is needed.”

“You can’t have Doucoure on those wages. It would mean that whenever recruiting you’ll have agents quoting his wages as a yardstick for their clients. Renegotiate another year on reduced terms, and that’s sound,” @bittertoffee claimed.

The agreement continued as @EvertonF1878 said: “I don’t mind Abdoulaye, but its about time we move on and find a better younger Doucoure.”

@BT_1878 summed it up with: “Not overly fussed what they do with Doucoure, but I’m not surprised they haven’t triggered a clause that sees him on £120k+ a week at the age of 32.”

Carlos Alcaraz’s arrival has jeopardised Doucoure’s Everton future, and with these factors taken into account, it’s good business from the Friedkins, as it doesn’t bode well for the midfielder’s chances at Everton.
