A round-up of the latest Everton news as updates emerge over the Toffees’ stance on Jarrad Branthwaite’s transfer and the Blues close in on naming their next kit supplier.

Castore will replace Hummel as Everton’s kit supplier in 2024

Manchester-based sportswear brand Castore is now set to replace Hummel as the supplier of Everton’s kits from the 2024/25 campaign. That is according to the Liverpool Echo, which reports the Toffees are close to reaching an agreement that will come into effect next term.

Everton only have a contract with Danish brand, Hummel, until the end of the 23/24 season after agreeing on an extension in October 2022. They initially joined forces in May 2020 and made this season’s home kit as a throwback to Denmark’s 1992 European Championship kit.

Talks have now been ongoing for months between Everton and Castore about a deal for it to replace Hummel. Those negotiations are also now at an advanced stage but nothing is yet in writing. Everton will hope they avoid the issues Aston Villa had with wet-look Castore strips.

Everton are now using Wesley Fofana’s transfer to Chelsea as an example for their stance on any transfer for Branthwaite over January. That is according to TEAMtalk, which reports that the Toffees believe they can target the £75m deal Leicester City demanded in August 2022.

Branthwaite is highly in demand among the Premier League’s elite ahead of the mid-season market. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both monitoring his superb form at Goodison Park. Teams are also keeping a close eye on Everton’s delicate financial situation.

Financial Fair Play fears still loom large on Merseyside after Everton’s 10-point deduction by the Premier League. The Toffees might regretfully have to sell Branthwaite to balance their books in January. But the Blues will only accept substantial offers akin to Fofana’s price tag.

Football finance expert raises fresh fears about 777 Partners’ takeover

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has sparked fresh fears about 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton. The Miami-based group are still waiting for a response from the Premier League over their attempt to buy the majority shareholding of Farhad Moshiri in the Goodison club.

The Premier League is still assessing 777 Partners’ credibility as a fit and proper owner of an English top-flight club. But Maguire fears how the US private investment company is already providing funds for Everton to cover their day-to-day operational costs and wages right now.

Maguire said on The Price of Football podcast: “What makes me slightly twitchy in relation to Everton is I think that a lot of the money which has been borrowed has been utilised to pay the wages and the day-to-day running costs at the club.

“Using long-term finance to get you over short-term financial stresses, that isn’t good. You match short-term lending to short-term needs, and you match long-term lending to long-term needs.

“We don’t know enough detail with regards to these loans from 777 but we understand that they are unsecured. So, if somebody’s lending money to a company in financial distress which is unsecured, the first thing I’d be asking is: ‘Well, are they charging interest?’”
