Everton face a six-wide race for the transfer of Wharton

The Toffees now face a six-club race to sign Adam Wharton after Tottenham Hotspur joined Everton in the pursuit of a transfer from Blackburn Rovers. That is according to 90min, which reports that Spurs are the latest Premier League squad to direct their scouts to Ewood Park.

Wharton is generating vast interest in his signature after emerging as a key player under Jon Dahl Tomasson. The 19-year-old is also seen as one of the best young Championship stars. Now, top-flight sides are clamouring to catch a glimpse of his skills in view of a possible deal.

Everton freeze talks with Dyche about a new contract

Everton have frozen their negotiations with Dyche about a new contract after receiving a 10-point deduction from the Premier League. That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that the Blues have delayed further discussions with their manager regarding a future there.

Toffees chiefs are keen to discuss awarding Dyche a new deal having galvanised their squad since replacing Frank Lampard. But they will lean on his existing terms having 18 months to run whilst club executives look to challenge the 10-point deduction for breaching FFP rules.

An independent commission upheld the Premier League’s charge against Everton issued in March for breaking its financial sustainability rules. The Toffees recorded losses of £124.5m between the 2019/20 and 2021/22 campaigns. But the permitted limit for losses is £105m.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Burnham, has slammed Sky Sports after the broadcaster pulled his interview in which he criticised the 10-point deduction Everton have received. He has also taken aim at Sky Sports for its measures to allay supporter criticism of their penalty.

“I don’t know why it wasn’t broadcast and I’d very much like an explanation,” Burnham, who is an Everton fan, has told the Daily Mail. “As a former Cabinet Minister, I don’t expect third parties to decide what I can and cannot say.

“There seems to be a wider picture here with views expressed by Evertonians at the game being silenced, too. I find all this very troubling. They’ve denied us our points. It surely can’t be right to deny Evertonians our voice, as well.”

Everton fans protested against the points deduction during last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United in the Premier League. It was their first fixture at Goodison Park since the penalty. But Sky Sports reportedly quietened the pitchside microphones at their ground.
