The Friedkin Group have been in the spotlight lately and some Everton fans may be concerned.

Roma recently hit out at The Friedkin Group – calling the Americans the worst owners they have ever experienced in The Eternal City – a development which may leave some Everton supporters fearful about the future under the same ownership.

Now, decision makers at the Hill Dickinson Stadium are undergoing an overhaul of the scouting department – led by James Smith – and a questionable move has been made involving Ole Neilson.

Everton dismiss Scandinavian scout Ole Neilson

Everton insider The Bobble has now claimed on X (previously known as Twitter) that Neilson’s role as the club’s Scandinavian scout has now been made redundant.

The decision will presumably have been thought about extensively at Everton, although when you consider just how much talent is emerging from Scandinavia nowadays, it seems a strange move.

Some of the biggest names around right now have emerged from Scandinavian academies, such as Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and Alexander Sorloth – who Everton want to sign from Atletico Madrid.

Younger talents are still emerging from that part of the planet, with Lucas Bergvall, Antonio Nusa, Sverre Nypan, Patrick Dorgu, Roony Bardghji, Andreas Schjelderup and Hugo Larsson all shining in Europe, some for clubs as large as Manchester United and Barcelona.

Everton clearly believe Scandinavia is no longer worth keeping a close eye on following the redundancy involving Neilson, but when you consider the aforementioned level of talent, we feel it is a decision which could backfire on the Toffees.

This is nothing more than mere speculation on our part, but the decision could have been made due to David Moyes and his preferences.

The Glaswegian wants Liam Delap at Everton and often likes to have a British core of players, with Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, James Tarkowski, James Garner, Dwight McNeil, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jake O’Brien all hailing from Britain, as do Tyler Dibling, Tyrique George, Harrison Armstrong and Nathan Patterson.

Will TFG have to move away from Moyes to achieve their recruitment model? 😬

Dan Friedkin.

There is a chance Everton felt Moyes wouldn’t use any Scandinavian talents if they were to be signed, but overall, the decision to remove that role from the scouting network entirely seems an odd move.
