This has been an unprecedented summer for Everton thus far, but there have been some things that truly never change.
After all, whilst quick and concise deals for Jack Harrison and Tim Iroegbunam were sorted early in the window, Iliman Ndiaye’s move to Everton was protracted, delayed for over a week after completing his medical for no apparent reason.
However, to contrast this, it now seems like Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have miraculously sorted out another signing overnight.
Everton agree deal for new striker
A deal that has seemingly come out of nowhere, Everton have now reportedly agreed on their fourth signing of the summer, another striker set to join on a free transfer.
Always one for a bargain, Thelwell will be licking his lips at the prospect of this acquisition, which would offer depth to his front line without having to offload a huge sum.
The latest comes courtesy of Africa Foot, who actually report on the Toffees’ progressing talks to sign Mali marksman Sekou Kota.
The report reads: ‘Indeed, things are really moving for Sékou Koïta, who has already reached an agreement with Everton, according to Africafoot information. Free of any contract, the 24-year-old player is only waiting for a few details, to initialise his contract with the Toffees.
‘Except for an extraordinary turnaround, Sékou Koïta should now continue his career in the English Premier League, after more than five years of hard and loyal service to Red Bull Salzburg. Everton would have accepted all requests, according to a source very close to the player.’
Who is Sekou Koita?
Having grown up in his native Mali, and thus developed through the youth teams of one of their clubs, a subsequent move to Austrian side FC Liefering handed Koita his first foray into European football.
And, since then, he has never looked back.
A relatively successful loan spell with Wolfsberger AC put him on the map, and convinced Red Bull Salzburg, an institution renowned for developing talent, to take a punt on him.
He has been there for five years now, and has thundered home goals for fun across his 106 career games for them.
Just last season saw him score eight in just 19 league matches, bringing his total tally for the club up to 43.
However, he will struggle to live up to the performances he maintained throughout the 2020/21 season, which saw Football Talent Scout Jack Kulig laud him for posting ‘outrageous numbers’, with a goal contribution every 61 minutes as of December.
A dynamic and relentless 5 foot 8 forward, perhaps this shrewd signing could act as further backup to new Toffee Ndiaye, and finally pave a path for Abdoulaye Doucoure’s exit.
