Everton are now just days away from their opening game of the 2024/25 campaign where Brighton & Hove Albion will visit Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche‘s preparations for the new season have gone well this summer with the Blues having only travelled as far as Ireland during their pre-season efforts.

And in the transfer market, Kevin Thelwell has been put to work at Everton with the Toffees chief having brought in four new additions to bolster the squad.

Everton are already seeing the results of Thelwell’s work with the likes of Jake O’Brien and Jesper Lindstrom scoring on their debuts against Preston North End.

But there is still time for Everton to add even more players to their squad for the new campaign with talks now ongoing over their potential fifth signing.

Everton open talks over ‘amazing’ midfielder

Another midfielder is seemingly on the agenda for Dyche after Everton sold Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for a fee in the region of around £50m.

One player who has been strongly linked with a potential move to Goodison this summer is Kalvin Phillips with Everton and Dyche seriously keen on the Manchester City man.

According to Rudy Galetti, there has now been a development in Everton’s interest in the former England midfielder.

Over the last few days, Everton have now held talks with City over the availability of Phillips ahead of the transfer deadline.

Phillips’ time at City looks to be hanging by a threat with the midfielder looking for a move which would earn him regular first team football.

That is something which has not been on offer for him at the Etihad and a loan away for the 2024/25 campaign would be accepted by City.

This is what Everton want to hear as they would like to bring in the 28-year-old with the option to buy next summer.

Everton also considering Manchester United’s Scott McTominay

Midfield options are aplenty at Goodison with Thelwell having created a list which is not short of players Everton could potentially seek a move for this summer.

And one of those is believed to be Manchester United’s Scott McTominay with Everton eyeing a possible move for the Scotland international.

There has, however, been some optimism to emerge following the signing of Tim Iroegbunam from Villa earlier this summer.

Iroegbunam has been one of the real impressive stars from this summer’s pre-season with the 21-year-old playing a big role in Dyche’s midfield so far.

But in Phillips, Everton could land themselves a midfielder who has been hailed as ‘amazing‘ following his time at Leeds United and City.
