Everton’s ownership are planning for the future.

The Friedkin Group want to sign young talent and ensure that Everton’s academy produces more first-teamers.

The American investors have pumped investment into the academy since they joined in December 2024, as they felt it was subpar in the previous regime.

That said, it’s now being reported that the Toffees are considering signing a Chelsea youngster who would likely join their under-21s set-up next season.

Everton interested in Chelsea teenager Sol Gordon

According to transfer specialist Pete O’Rourke, Everton are having a good look at Chelsea’s academy star Sol Gordon.

O’Rourke wrote on X: “Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth are keeping tabs on Chelsea youngster Sol Gordon as they weigh up moves for the attacker. Gordon, 18, is entering the final year of his contract.”

Gordon plies his trade for the 18s and netted 13 goals whilst laying on six assists last term, so he’s on course to step up to the under-21s.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

Indeed, Everton will hope they can persuade him to make the switch to Merseyside instead and give him a clearer path to the first team.

With Moyes due to depart upon the expiry of his contract next summer, some of the young talent at Finch Farm will have a much greater chance of getting first-team debuts.

On Chelsea’s website, Gordon is described as a midfielder, so it seems as though he’s converted to a wide player fairly recently.

“He is known for his positive, outgoing and confident character around the training ground.

“Gordon is an adaptable player who can confidently switch midfield roles. He is confident in front of goal when it comes to scoring and making threatening opportunities.

“The midfielder enjoys going from box to box and being a reliable team-mate in high-intensity situations.”
